Hi, after research I figured I'd be better off posting my question on these forums

I have been capturing compressed .avi 720p/1080i files via my Black Magic Intensity Pro through RGB/Component Audio but the files are absolutely HUGE. 1GB roughly for 1 hour files and I'm trying to figure out the best way to compress them. Should I use Xvid or x264? What is the best(freeware) way to go about this?

I know they can be compressed to smaller formats as I have seen but I am completely perplexed aas to HOW, any help would be GREATLY appreciated, thanks for anyone who response!

1gb/hour is almost nothing. You can, of course, compress below that using xvid, for example, but what you already have is SURELY far lower quality than the original source video. High quality 1080p can be between 8-10gb/hour. High quality 720p can be 4-6gb/hour.

What format does your black magic leave the files in once captured?
