I figured this would be a better place for my message: Hey, I'm kinda new to this. Been using DVD Shrink and decryptor for a long time now, but since my back up dvds are becoming unreadable by my dvd player (scratches, etc.) I thought maybe it would be better to take the original dvds ad rerip them straight to an external hard drive. However, a large dvd collection would cause a hard drive to fill up quickly. I have over 50 dvds and don't wanna buy an expensive hard drive only to be filled up quick, so I thought compression would be easiest. Does anyone know how to do this with free based programs? Could I use WinRAR to compress, then simply play the files out of there once i hook up the ext. drive?
you would have to unrar them if you would want to watch them. Your best bet would be to rip the DVD's to your computer and convert them to Xvid and play them that way. You wouldnt get the menus but you would have the movie. You would bebale to get allot of movies on an HDD if you convert them to Xvid.
ok, thanx, i'll check out xvid. how many movies could i get on a 200gb or 300gb ext. drive? i have upwards of 75, soon to be 100. would winRAR work better since i'd just be opening them up one at a time from the hard drive whenever i wanted to watch them? if so, how much could i fit on a 200gb?, 300gb?
Please don't multi-post it against forum rules and can get confusing for members. You already had a thread here http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/365492 I will request a mod to close the above thread.
i thought it should be posted here, but i don't know how to delete my old one. so if anyone knows, what is a list of all components i'll need for this? someone said use ratDVD, but i think i need other stuff too?
