A newb here. Just started using CCE and dvd rebuilder. I have already done a successful backup. My question is how do i know how much compression is being used? I have looked thru the forum here but did not find anything about it. I am sorry if i missed it, but i did look around first and read some guides. Any help would be appreciated.
D1v1d3d You don't know how much compression is being used unless you measure each individual result against the original ripped file because it varies with the size and number of frames of each DVD. If you've noticed most DVD's regardless of its size come in at about 4.3 to 4.32 gigs on average regardless of the size and frame count of the original. Now if want to do each individual file then you can estimate by dividing the size of the ripped DVD into about 4.31 gigs. For instance if you were to divide 4.31 gigs by 7.5 gigs, you would get 57.5% of the original or a compression of about 47.5%.
Ahhhhh, that makes sense. I had been using dvd shrink for a long time now and i just got used to it telling how much it was compressed. I could not figure out how to tell by using dvd rebuilder. But i will keep that in mind the next time i use cce and rebuilder. So far i really like using this way better than using shrink. Thanks for the info.
If you look in the rebuilder text document after rebuilder is done it will tell you the reduction level.
D1v1d RB does reveal compression results after the fact but if you want it before the fact you're still going to have to use Math.
I usually do the analysis/import in Recode2 first and use that percentage as a baseline. It is usually within a percentage point or two... You can do the same with Shrink...
I've used Shrink and Recode to analyse a film but for calculations only it's easier just to divide 4.31 by the file size, it's accurate to within 10 megabytes and takes only seconds.
