My problem started a few weeks ago, when my PC suddenly booted after I inserted a game CD in the CD-Drive. This happened a few times after that, and today it happened again. However, this time it kept on booting itself, giving me no chance to actually open the computer, not even in safe mode! Basically it starts just fine with the loading screen, then comes a very quick bluescreen flash and it sends me to the "your computer didn't boot properly" thing... Some people suggested repair installing on another forum, but this is impossible because whenever I insert a CD in the drive the computer gets stuck and doesn't even read the CD. I also tried removing the CD-drive and then booting it, which didn't work either. The problem isn't with the memory, either, and resetting the BIOS didn't work. (I'm not totally sure whether or not I resetted it right, my motherboard doesn't seem to have jumpers anywhere so I just removed the battery for a couple of minutes and unplugged the power supply). So, does anyone have any idea whats wrong/how to fix the problem? I really wouldn't want to lose all my files... And I can't format the PC either if it doesn't read a CD. And if you need more info, just ask, I'm not sure if I made everything totally clear there.
Just to help you out here, you mean 'rebooted' - booting is the process of starting the PC in the first place, derived from eons ago when you literally booted machinery to get it running, not from the phrase 'booted off' as perhaps you're thinking... As for your problem though, I'm not entirely sure, if your CD drive is unplugged, both from power and from the data cable, does the PC function as normal - if not, how so?
I tried unplugging and taking the cd drive out, but it didn't work... I think the problem might be with the motherboard or power supply.
A few months under 4 years old I think. I'm pretty sure I located the problem: one of the condensers is bulging. I think I'll just buy a new computer, repairing/buying a new motherboard isn't worth it. However, I would like to recover some files, would it be possible to insert my harddrive into my old computer?
You should be able to get your files off the HDD by connecting it to new pc as secondary. WHY didn't you have your files backed up in the first place? After you get your files off the old HDD then reformat it and use it as a back up for your important stuff or buy a cheap external to back up to.
i was having the same problem with my friends computer where it would load and get to the desk top and after about 5 mins it would restart and it would do it over and over every 5 mins when i opened it up there was this piece that was off the motherboard (admin if i cant have pics then delete it) look to the right of the big fan that lil silver piece was off so i pressed it back on
I can make out your picture (tiny though it is, upload a larger picture next time and link us to it) but am not sure about said 'metal piece' that came off - anything coming off isn't a good sign - it will either be a clip holding the CPU heatsink on, or it'll be the chipset heatsink I expect. Having removed either of these you really ought to apply new thermal paste before putting them back.
