Hi there, Can you help me? - I have a new Sony AW-G170A internal DVD writer. It plays pre-recorded DVD's but when I insert a brand new Philips DVD+RW disk (straight out of the packet) it immediately crashes my computer. I have watched an exact same philips disk with recordings on taken from a TV DVD recorder but as soon as I put in a new blank one it keeps crashing? Does it need formatting somehow? if so, you don't get a chance to. Any ideas please - i'd be most grateful. Thanks Gary.
Did you install packet-writing software with the drive over other packet-writing software already on the drive? The problem could be conflicts there.
My new DVD writer didn't come with any software. Should I have to put some on? - I'm a novice to this i'm afraid.... My old Sony internal drive only played DVD's, it didnt record them - if this helps. Thanks for taking an interest in my problem so far.
That is probably why your computer is crashing. You need to purchase some recording software (Nero and Roxio are two of the most popular) in order for the computer to recognize the drive. Some of the recording software will check and fix the ASPI layer of your computer in case there is a problem there.
I just did a search of the Sony web site and cannot find this model listed, are you sure you have posted the correct model. You do not, as far as I am aware need any recording progs for your hardware to be recognizes.
I have a problem with this DVD writer as well. I cant seem to burn cd's or dvd's but only read. Nero doesn't even recognise it, giving only my cd writer and an "image recorder" in the "choose recorder" options.
