Excuse another lousy guestion, but I am getting desperate
    with this...

    Case: Aopen QF50-A
    MB: Gigabyte GA-M55plus-S3G
    CPU: AMD x2 3800 AM2
    Ram: Kingston 2*512 DDR2 553mhz

I know there has been similar cases before, but my recently
built set jams to just fans turning on couple seconds and then
going off. I'm quite certain the fault is either in cpu or motherboard and not in compatibility issuer or power.

The biggest mistake I made was to align first wrong the 4-pin ATX-power connector( the one with 22-pin ) to the ATX_12V pins. It somehow
fitted the hole and the result was just slight pulse from fans. When
I got the connections right, the fans rolled about 10 second and
HDD started also rolling, but no lights.

I wonder if that might have fried the CPU or MB?

Check you have your wired correctly to the power switch and that the power switch is working correctly.Always best to start with the most obvious and work your way up.
