I have no idea what happened, my pc freezes, even after i did system restore. Im still able to use it but it is getting anoying. can anyone help me thanks Plus I cant put on the task manager (ctrl+alt+delete)
when you say system restore, do you mean you used a system restore point(which could be corrupt) or you did a clean install(complete format after backing up all relevant data)
Can you start in safe mode? Reboot and tap F8 and select safe mode from the drop down manual. Sounds like a corrupt driver! post back here with results Xeres

so what exactly do you do in safemode to fix this problem? i hear somewhere that you just shut down or something properly, is this correct?
I can start in a safemode but I have no idea how is that going to help me. Tinacious do you have the same problem?
are you sure this isnt a hardware issue rather than a software one.If you did a clean install, took all your data off and then re installed windows from scratch (takes about 3 hours ) and still are having issues then i think its going to be hardware. what are your pc stats?
Hp Pavilon AMD Athlon XP 2800+ 1.0 GB RAM Oh I forgot, about 3 months ago I installed Gforce 6600 maybe this is the problem but the freezeng started much later I heard that this can be happening because the pc is over heating do to some dust/dirt is that possible. thanks for help
@ Antonio Just wondering if you had considered these points? When does your “freeze” problem occur? Is it all the time, immediately from start up, or does it happen when the P.C. is under some strain? For example playing a 3d shooter with everything turned on? If the heatsinks on the processor and graphix card are full of dust and grime overheating could be a possible answer. Check in the BIOS for the core temperatures. When you say you did a system restore, did you as guyrus asked, use a windows restore point, which could also include a corrupt driver, or re-install windows after a format. If the latter was the install from a windows xp original disk or was it from the HP system restore disc? If from the xp disc did you also re-install all the system drivers for the motherboard and graphix card? Was the original graphix card included on the motherboard or a separate card? If on board did you turn off the on-board graphix from within the BIOS? (if enabled there
no pci express (at least it doesnt say on the box) I re-installed windows after a format from the dvd that I burned when I bought the pc. I didnt turn off the on-board graphix, how do you do it.But if thats the problem wouldnt this be happening right after i installed the new graphix card. the pc doesnt freeze when I play games but it did couple of times when I was starting a game. most often it freezes when Im on the internet and sometimes when im trying to open a folder or play a song. Can you tell me how do I check BIOS for the core temperatures. thanks
assuming there are no other driver conflicts at work, then it may well be a hardware fault as guyrus suggests. To check cpu/motherboard temps, assuming your BIOS supports the function. Restart the machine and at restart there is a message in the corner of the screen saying hit del[or F2) to enter set up. Tap the relevent key and the BIOS set up screen will load. In my case with an award BIOS the temps are displayed under the Power Tab in Hardware monitor. Some BIOS are different so it's worth looking around. Don't change anything whilst in there what ever you do. Exit the utility without saving and the machine will re boot. If you google around you will find info on what the temps should be, the lower the better is good. Memory failure could also be the cause. If you have more than 1 stick in the machine, try taking them out and using one at a time and see if the problem re-occurs. It seems that the lock ups occur a lot when on line. I assume you are using good firewall/anti virus/spyware utilities, take a look at this link http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/292257 its a great guide from rav009 for free programs.
