please excuse i am new to this can anyone please help i am trying to convert from avi to dvd and have tried several softwears, but to no avail my computer freezes in the converting process i have manages to convert a trailer so i presume that the hard wear works

the best way i've found to convert Avi to DVD is using Nero Vision Express 3, if you have Nero 6, go download the digital pack from neros website and get nero recode and nero VE3. Pm me afterwards and i can help you with the program if need be. Also what is your PC stats?
As ArCaine says whats your PC stats. When computers freeze its a sign of overheating. When rendering video if you check your PC's performence you'll notice 100% the whole time. Try another method of preparing your files and make sure you use the latest version of any software your using. Hope the thought helps some.
Yes sirdaelee is right, converting uses a lot of cpu, its comparable to rendering 3D, depending on the method used. Post your PC stats. Mem and CPU speed should be all that would really matter. and also maybe your HDD size and capacity. I find that NVE3 works on PC's that are a little older compared to using a more complex and heavy program
thanks to all, scf_au tried this softwear still no luck, Arcaine also tried Nero as for the stats dont know where to look? sirdaelee: please advise as to what other methods or preparing files i can use? any assistance will be greatfully received. i tried removing the side of my comp and the process did manage to get a bit futher than it had been! if it is due to over heating what can i do?
are you happy that the original avi plays fine, ie has no corruption ?. either way my suggestion would also be to try divxtodvd
@md181818 By adding a couple of case fans to your system you can increase the ventilation and reduce the heat buildup. I did for my system and it has been benificial. Heat is a MB killer.
Over-heating could indeed be a cause. You may also have too many programs running a the same time, thus competing for the pc's power. You may thus: 1) clean and make sure your pc has good ventilation 2) close unnecessary programs during video conversion (e.g. firewall, antivirus program, Norton Go Back) Then try with e.g. vso again. Good luck!
use the old stand by,as i use to tell the newbies,take the side off ye computer case and direct a floor fan on medium into the inside of the case.,if the problem goes away,then ye will know to install more computer fans. cheers
@ireland - as daft as it sounds that's how we're currently helping the cooling behind our biggest Sun E10K server at work (i say 'we', it's not my idea!), a tall office fan

at last i think i have identified the problem CPU is runnimg at 100% so i think this is causing the compter to stop responding what can i do to increase my CPU please help
Most burning programs would make your cpu run at 100%, but that does not create trouble for many people. So you still have to figure out other causes or solutions to your problem. Apart from good ventilation and shutting down unnecessary programs using up cpu power, you may of course also try to optimize your pc's performance with some of the softwares available on market.
