i need help with my dell xps 710 when i turn it on. After about 10 minutes it freezes up and i cannot do anything other than switch it back off again! i heard i could be a problem with the hdd. I did find a way around it because it happened a few times before so i had to keep reinstalling windows could someone help me. Specs. Processor * Type Intel Core 2 Extreme QX6700 / 2.66 GHz RAM * 3 GB HDD * 500 GB OS Windows vista ultimate
More likely to be a hardware problem then. Your PC sounds quite new, so why not get Dell's warranty team to sort it out?
sorry for late reply but i had dell on the phone (cost me £17) and they were convinced it was not hardware related. Kept telling me to system restore or re-install windows which i have done countless times witch works great for a short while but then the problem happens again do i need to buy replacement Hard drives, or is there a way to fix this?
Ok i could try that. more info my hdd is faulty ran a diagnostic one hdd passed the other failed (the one with vista on) return code 7??
http://www.almico.com/speedfan.php Download and install, then look at the SMART section, and click the button that says it performs an online analysis. Post the results here.
lol can't do that i'm on my laptop. the xps is still out of commission unless i take out the failed hdd and re-install vista on the working hdd. Maybe just doing that will solve all my problems anyway (part from the one dead hhd)
Ah well, if you know the HDD is dead, there's little point. If you know the HDD is dead, whine at Dell about it, and I mean really make a fuss. It is company policy to take the easiest route out of a complaint in the PC industry, so make a big enough fuss and they should do something about it. If not, just RMA the hard disk to whoever manufactured it, and they'll replace it for you quickly.
thanks for all your help i will try what you said and ring dell tomorrow see if i can get a replacement thanks again
