My computer seems to have alot of problems lately If it matters I am using an Eee Pc with XP Home.

Yesterday my computer was fine after a scan from AVG and malewarebytes but today it started to act weird. I opened it today and the appearance went to windows classic and there was no internet connection when there normally would be. There was no connection even when I was connected through a wire. The start up was also weird because it would take a very long time to log into my account and it also took a long time to load the desktop.

I opened my computer in safe mode and my internet started working. I started scanning with AVG (AVG trial BTW), malewarebytes and spybot. After all of the scans only spybot picked up a few things and that did not fix my problem. Is there anyway to fix my problem and clean my computer and keep it clean from all or most of the spyware, malware and viruses?

I really don't want to reformat it because I'm not sure how I would do that because I have no disk drive and I want to keep all the things that it previously came with.

    Thanks for the help.

the most reliable scan i have seen is panda scan it picks up everything.its a free online scan that will pick up any viruses, spyware, trogans and malware. and it will tell you where the viruses are on your computer.I had 2 dodgy spyware cookies and a virus on my computer and malwarebytes didnt pick it up and i was told try AVG but that didnt pick it up.

My computer seemed to be good for a week or so then it started to act strange again. I tired panda scan but to actually get rid of the viruses I had to pay for it. So it didn't really work. Any other suggestions?

if panda scan finds a virus it will tell you the file path.copy and paste the file path into your search bar(in your start menu) and it will find the file and you can delete it.

Do you have a HJT log that you can post so we can get an idea of what is there?

Sorry guys I'm kinda a newbie with all this computer stuff so I don't know what your talking about.

If you tell me how I'm sure I can get the information you guys need like the HJT log.
Also what is IE and how would I reset it?
    What is BHO?
How would I turn off system restore and delete all the restore points?

Again sorry I'm not very good with computers and I want to know what I'm doing so I won't remove anything important and thanks again for the help.

BHO = Browser Helper Object. It can be anything from a toolbar to something that is used to gather info. Normally it is attached to Internet Explorer.

Oh well the Internet Explorer thing is not a problem. I always use firefox and I've never touched internet Explorer.

Also lately I am always using my laptop now in safe mode, but I always try to boot up my laptop normally. Whats weird is sometimes it will start up fine with all the natural XP appearance. Sometimes it will boot up with the Windows classic appearance and just run slowly. Other times it will only show the desktop background and nothing else.

I haven't changed anything with my computer so I just wondering whats going on? Why does it keep constantly switching?

I'll get the HJT log up as soon as possible.

I tried to install the hijack log thing and it said

"The system administrator has set up policies to prevent this installation."

I'm using safe mode right now because the regular mode rarely works, so how would I change those policies to make it work?

I dont see anything that overly peaks my intrest. Yes you have a boat load of stuff that you are trying to load on boot making boot slow. Some of the applications may not be loading correctly and hang. This would cause you slow boot issue or the non boot that you are experencing. You should attempt to remove some items that are starting when the computer boots. You can accomplish this by clicking on start then run. In the run box type msconfig then click on ok. This will bring up another window. Go to the startup tab and remove some of the items that dont need to be running on boot. Such as Skype, messenger, one note, and possibly some of the eee preinstalled software. Let me know how this works out for you.

Well I've found the menu and turned off the start up stuff like skype and Eee docking. There were a bunch of other things but I don't exactly know what they are so I don't know if they should be on or off, so I'll just make a list for you guys.

    igfxtray
    hkcmd
    igfxpers
    RTHDCPL
    IMJUMIG
    ImScInst
    TINTSETP
    TINTSETP
    PWRISOVM
    NeroCheck
    qttask
    SynTPEnh
    SynAsusAcpi
    avgtray
(this ones blank but checked for boot on startup)
    AsTray
    AsAcpiSvr
    AsEPCMon
    msnmsgr
    ctfmon
    Reader_sl

I'm really hoping this works if not is there any other theories or ways to check why its acting weird?

These are related to the intel graphics I woluld let these start. They are for some of the features. They are 100% necessary but they should run.

    igfxtray
    hkcmd
    igfxpers

These would be for you touch pad and I would let these run

    SynTPEnh
    SynAsusAcpi

With your HJT log it looks like you have a proxy setup to look at the loop back.
Also You would want to remove that. You can accomplish that in IE under the tools - internet options - connections tab - lan settings. Unless specefied by your isp the only one to be checked would be the automaticly detect.

For trouble shooting you could stop everything from starting and slowly add one to two back in. It would be time consuming but it would help you figure out what is horking. Also How about the event logs? Do they say anything about a hanging app on boot?

Also dont you have a thread on removing AVG? Hows that going?

Well for the proxy setup I'm not sure how to do that because I'm using firefox. Should I just remove it anyway

Also how would I get the event logs? As for AVG I still haven't got the time to do any of the suggested methods. I've been busy with it being finals week and all so I haven't got around to it.

I was planning on switching to Avast. Which do you prefer free AVG or free Avast?
