Have you added any new memory lately? Incompatible, or even faulty memory chips have a tendancy to reboot XP on the splash screen. Pull all but one of your mem sticks. Then reboot it. If it loads, switch to another stick. Do this will all the sticks that you have. If everything boots fine with every stick by itself, then put two sticks in. See what happens. Are all the sticks the same brand/speed, etc?

Not sure. Usually if there is an error with peripherals, you will get a BSOD. Have you tried booting with the thumb drive unplugged? I dont think this would cause your symptoms. Try switching the mem sticks around like I posted eariler and see what happens.

What do I mean by what? In one of my previous posts in this thread, I recommended that you switch around the mem sticks to see if the issue goes away. It was the first post after yours. I still think its memory related, but we'll see. Follow the recommendation I gave and we'll go from there.

josh you should have a look at my thread, I have had the same or a very similar problem recently. It's still in a state of mystery to me somewhat but I have pretty much mastered the art of getting the thing to boot when it has these symptoms, which is useful...

Dont know if this is the same but my daughters computer was restarting by itself. Even from the off state. Turned out to be the power supply. Replaced it and got a battery back-up to plug new power supply into. Haven't seen no problems since. Don't know if this is the same problem. Just thought id throw it out there.
