i just installed a seagate 400gb serial ata/300 7200 rpm 16mb cache 3.5 inch drive in my desktop and it's making a normal comp noise but louder? You know what I mean? Like it didn't make that sound but now it does, so I'm assuming it's from the hard drive or my fan... Does anyone have this hard drive and have a similar experience? How do I make it so it doesn't make as much noise. Oh and Also I opened up my computer today and it was soooo dusty...any hint on how to get rid of it? It doesn't feel right using a damp cloth or is it? I feel like a comp n00b. Help!

disconnect the fan to see if fan is causing the noise. get a can of air to cleanout the dust bunnies unless you have an air compressor.

to clean it you could suck it out carfuly with a hover or blow it away with a tin of compressed air, both work

it could be that the drive was sat slightly wrong in the bay and the vibrations were making the noise and after you have opened it up it has seated propperly. was it formated when it was louder than normal?

slave/master only matters when they are on the same ide cable
