Computer will not turn on-now no monitor signal

I was working on a 2 year old home built MOBO-gigabyte 81k1100 with an Intel P4 - 2.8G. I was online and kept getting a message to update adobe which I finally accepted after indicating I would install later. During install, system locked up so I logged off. When I went to use computor later same day the fans and cpu would power up for a few seconds than quite. Monitor would display no signal. I went through a series of diagnostics and have replaced the PSU and installed a new motherboard (ABIT IC7-G). After rebuilding I rebooted with Motherboard, CPU, Video card, 2- 256 ram and floopy hooked up. The system will now power-up with fans and cpu running and I still get a monitor display of no signal.
I removed both ram sticks and tried a new one with no change. I hooked the monitor up to a laptop and monitor does work. So I assume it still narrows down to the CPU, video card or installation of a new-bad motherboard.
Any advise on what would be the most likely component or check to make prior to purchasing new video card or CPU, would be appreciated?
Any comments on loading the adobe program could that have been a virus that caused my problem? Should I try to reuse hard drive?

It sounds more like the Video card went bad. Is there a speaker inside your case. Cause if you hook the speaker to your mobo it will give a series of beeps and your mobo manual will tell you what the beeps mean and what needs replaced. If I had to guess I would say your video card is bad or just might not be seated down all the way into the slot.

 

Can you load up windows so far then the monitor turns black, like do you get to a certain bit and then it turns black? If so press F5 when it’s loading up and select “Boot in VGA mode” and reinstall the driver for your gfx card.

 

I hooked up the audio cable to external speakers and no beeps when I boot. When I do boot no signal is seen. I do have an old PC that I will pull the video card out and check. Do you think a bad vidoe card would cause a pc not to powerup? Initial problem was system fans would run few seconds than quit.

This maybe a stupid question on my part but have you tried a different cable for your monitor?

 

Have you checked your power supply for adequate power at the mb connector?

 

Yes a video card will cause a system not to boot fully. It will boot up then power down. I meant the PC SPEAKER INSIDE YOU PC CASE not your external speakers, but Im assuming you dont have a speaker inside your pc case or you would hear 1 beep when you power on.

 

I connected a laptop to the monitor cable and it worked so I am assuming the cable is good. I will try another. There is power getting to the mobo as a powerlight is on. I took out and reseated the video card and it is in correct.
Another thing I noticed is I tried another RAM card. After installing I did hear a series of beeps. I was able to turn PC off with front power switch. When I turned the pc back on to count the beeps, I did not hear any. I also had to turn the system off using the psu switch the front case switch did not work.

It can only be two things..

Video card or Video Card

The only thing your board has to have installed to boot up is Video Card, RAM, and Processor.

You replaced 2 out of three so that only leaves one thing left... Unless your power supply went bad.... :-(

 

The light only indicates power to the supply. A dc voltmeter will need to be used to determine proper voltage to the board. I would think it's that or the video card.

 

I installed a 5500 video card and was able to connect with the monitor. An error message indicated that the processor was changed or not working. So I replaced the processor to a P4-3g and now system will let me in to the bios. When entered I get a series of long beeps. It starts with 8 long beeps, than goes up where I have counted up to 15. Stops and repeats. Abit does not have info on beeps. I have read other site info and found 8 beeps - DRAM error and other site ROM error no problem. Any info on beeps?

 

I cleared cmos and retried. Continues beeps came back. If I ignor I can make it past the windows screen a see a blue dos like screen than the system goes black and reboots.

 

I now can open up my BIOS screen. I tried to re-install xp-pro OS. It makes it most of the way through and I get an error message need to chkdsk and remove any anti-virus programs for OS to load. I tried to enter safemode to access hard drive to check and remove norton anti-virus programs and to check to see if any virus. Any suggustions prior to going out and getting a second hard drive to avoid reformating and losing all exsisting hard drive data.

Another home built for family members to use. Abit ac7 mobo, p4-2.8g, 80 g hard drive, ms xp home os, 9250 video card, with remote access.

 

Try installing your HD on that machine as a secondary drive and get all the info you need off of it. Then just put it back in your PC and format it and reload..
