Hi, i just got my brother old computer which had no HDD installed. So i took a spare 40gb one i had, formated it created partitions on it then installed it. Not being able to find my XP PRO cd i just used his one, everything worked fine, then i found my XP cd (has loads more stuff on it) inside a broken CD-writer from my current PC, so i formated my partition again and tried installing from my new CD. It loads up allows me to choose install partition, copys files then it reboots as normal. But when it gets to the blue screen that follows everything appears to be going fine, feature things change in background etc, but a percentage bar never pops up in the bottom left and it just stays doing nothing. Figuring i could just install an OS on another computer i did (same CD-writer) it installed and runs perfect... on this computer i putr it back inside my new one, it booted to windows screen that says:
    Something about hardware/software error...
    Safemode
    Safemode with command prompt
restart with most recent config that worked.

All of those just cause the computer to freeze. I even took my HDD from my current PC and tried it as a master drive o the other one, its a dualboot system but whichever OS i choose it causes instant reboot.

So anyone have any ideas as to how to fix this PC?

I had an issue like this once. It was not able to find certain files on the cd. I made a copy of the cd and then it worked fine. The only difference was the CD that it was made from.

Yea i had that problem as well but i managed to fix it, but now it gets to this blue screen and wont do anything. As it installs on my other computer and runs fine it isnt a CD issue, or an installation issue as it works on my other computer.

Never mind fixed it, turns out some part of my system is one a very few that needs a certain patch run before it haswill let SP2 install and as my XP cd was slipstreamed it wouldnt work. Ive now loaded a SP1 cd patched the file then installed SP2, looks like the microsoft website is actually good for something.
