I try to start my computer and at various times my computer will freeze. A black screen comes up with no error message and my monitor light goes from green to yellow back and forth. I can't shut it down from my on and off switch at the front of the computer I have to use the main switch at the back. It seems to run a little longer at the beginning when the computer is off for a longer period of time. I have tried to start it in Safe mode and I have set my bios to start up from the cd rom drive but it still freezes up. I opened up the cover and cleaned it out as good as possible. The fans seem to be running but not sure if running at proper speed. Please help... Computer Specs AMD 1200, 40gig hd, 256 ram, shared video card,( sorry not at home ) I don't get an error message at all. The screen just goes black and the computer freezes. I'm running Window's XP Pro.
Are you running Windows XP? Did you change some hardware, possibly a hard drive? http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314503/en-us Typically, the bios looks for the first boot sector, then boots the rest of your operating system up. If it doesn't find the boot sector, then you will get a black screen.
