Hi sorry to make my first post on these forums a request on some fairly mundane points, just having some problems getting my head round playing around with Blu ray despite what I've read on these and doom 9 forums as well as various wikis. I'll try make my posts clear and to the point, but I'm not sure of the terms used and don't use forums that frequently. I've been playing around with my blue ray disk of Casino Royale and so far have managed to rip it to my hard drive as .m2ts and then using tsmuxer, demux that into what I think is a .h264 video stream and an AC3 audio stream. I've then made an .iso of this using img burn which I can mount and play saving myself some hdd space for backing up. However I have been considering eventually setting up a wireless "n" network and use an icybox 4220 to host these back ups along with other media so that they can be played through the house. I'm aware wireless is less than ideal for HD streaming but it's unlikely thatthere will be more than 1 hd stream being used at any one point (though their may still be basic internet and music sharing) so 40mbps blu ray should be ok if I can get the nework running at the 50mbps often stated in reviews. Getting to the point, am I right in understanding that the video stream can be encoded to decrease its bit rate (at some loss of quality), as if so I'd like to be able to make a second back up that could be played in the event that the blu ray stream is unsustainable. If encoding can be used to decrease bit rate how low can it be pushed before their is an obvious decline in visual quality? Also can anyone tell me the next step to take towards decoding from the demuxed files. I've tried converting the .h264 to avi using avc2avi in megui but then when muxing that to a video only .mkv I get errors and am unable to complete the mux. Anyone know of anyway to get it to a state where it is able to be encoded in megui?
It appears I haven't even got as far as demuxing correctly yet, as when i tried playing an .iso made from just the video and one audio stream, I found that I only had the first hour or so of film. I'm guessing that I have to search through the other .m2ts files to try find the rest then try joining the video strerams together? If anyone has played around with this blu ray specifically I'd be grateful if they could give me step by step instructions
Check out what I just posted, lemme know what you think. http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/657940
