confused where to go to find out how to mod 3001 psp

Got two psps for my kids this Christmas and want to mod them to play backup and not UMD disks. There is so much info on this website and other and cant find what it is i need to do this.

Both psp are 3001 model number and both have software version of 6.20. I am unclear of where to go to get the info or even a walk through of what i need to do to get this done.

Also buddy of mine got a older PSP slim(doesn't have model number said its been rubbed off but one first slims) that he bought off ebay that had CFW 5.00 M33-6 and if someone knows what to do to get this one updated or point me to guide that i need to do this i would be grateful.

 

You cannot mod a PSP 3k permanently. But you can use a non permanent mod:

It means your kids have to keep their PSPs in standby mode or they are on official firmware again.
Your buddy's PSP is a PSP 2k.

 

Yeah, what he said, you cannot permanantly hack a psp 3k. You have to enable a mode using chickHEN. HEN stands for Homebrew ENabled. It means you can load iso's off the mem card and bypass the UMD but as Eisherz says, when you turn off the psp you'll have to "re-hack" it each time to play. It's a big pain in the butt!

Just wait around a few more weeks. Mathieu has found the retail PSP keys while farting around with the PS3. With these keys hackers will soon have a way to sign all homebrew like it came from sony. This will allow you to play any iso's, homebrew, cheats, whatever, on ANY PSP running ANY version of firmware.

It's just a matter of time, should be any day now.

so what about my buddy older psp, im reading about having to downgrade and upgrade but seems like his is already in middle of what processes i read about and what would i have to do to get this to play new games like Disgea 2 is one in particular that he says he wants to play that he cant.

again if someone can just point me to a guide i just dont know where to start with all the ones im finding.

Your buddy needs to upgrade the firmware to 5.50 GEN-D3, then upgrade that with the Prometheus-4 for 5.50 gen. This allows him to play games that require up to 6.XX firmware.

I have a psp 3001 also, what i did was install the patapon 2 and half-byte loader hack, then got the 6.20 TN-B hen. Through the hen you can downgrade to 5.03 and run the ChickHEn R2 hack and have a LCFW (light custom firmware) 5.03 GEN-C (full).

If you have a lcfw and turn the psp all the way off (hold the power button up for 3 seconds), you will have to run chickHEN R2 and Gen all over again.

Your buddy's psp can have a full CFW. he can turn the psp all the way off and turn it back on and it still be hacked.
