Help! Have searched all day and cannot find info at toshiba. Just bought an external hard drive with sata connector and want to buy cable to connect to toshiba satellite p105-6277. Users manual says I have a i.link ie. ieee-1394 port but cannot find pinout for it. Users guide says nothing about a sata or serialata port. Can anyone help me find what cable connections I need?? Thx

You need a special esata port, which unfortunately only is coming out on newer motherboards for desktop pcs. You may be able to get a usb converter cable, but I doubt they would make them because is would be a lot slower than esata.

what about going from the sata on the external drive to the ieee-1394 on the computer? Isn't the ieee a comparable speed?

shadob, the ieee-1394 is a firewire connector so send back that drive to be replaced with a usb2/firewire external drive.
