ok so i just recently bought me a netgear router and a wireless adapter. I hooked one computer up using a wire the other using wifi. They both connect to the internet fine, but what i want to do is connect both computers in a wired/wireless network.

Is that possible or do they both have to be in either wired or wireless to be in a network together?

You can connect between them for such things as file sharing, just enable sharing in my computer, make sure any firewall is allowing connection.
If you want more control, you can use guest/host software programs, vnc is free to dload and use, pcanywhere or netop cost money.
With these you can log into the other system, take control and move files etc...

Go to my computer and then use add network place, you should either see other pc share or can enter details manually

i tried doing the add a net work place, but the computer still will not show.

Also i tried to ping the other computer, but it would time out. I try to ping my router with both computers, it will work. I try to ping to this computer with another that i am trying to set up a network with, and it will ping. I dont know why this computer will not ping others.

This computer is connected wireless to the router whereas the other is wired. Can this be a problem? y cant i connect a wired and wireless network together, even though they are set to the exact same name.

Mixing wired with wireless is no problem at all.

until you get a basic ping working, you are getting nowhere.

make sure the firewalls on both PCs are turned off and try again.

also make sure that the default gateway is set correctly on both PCs, use the routers address as the gateway.

I tend no to use dhcp, as it can cause problems, use static addressing.

    example:
    router 192.168.0.1, pc 1 192.168.0.2, pc 2 192.168.0.3
