Ok, I'll run through the specs.

The native resolution of my laptop is 1200x800.
It has a VGA monitor plug out, and an S-Video type plug that supports component video out to 1080p.

The TV has every plug under the sun, including an analog VGA monitor plug and HDMI.

My question is, would I get better video using component cables, or by perhaps getting an HDFURY type adapter and converting the VGA plug to an HDMI. Thanks!

    Wrong.

That's the way to go, get the correct adapter and go component (although you'll get 1080i tops).
