    So I recently built a new pc, got firefox up and running but now i'm having some weird connection problems. firefox works fine but IE wont open up any pages not to mention iTunes cannot connect to the Itunes store. I disabled windows firewall and uninstalled norton but no luck yet. I'm thinking something in the network settings or such isnt set up properly. Had no problems on windows xp.

    Ping Results

    * itunes.apple.com no
    * ax.itunes.apple.com yes
    * albert.apple.com no
    * gs.apple.com yes
    Results were duplicated with my other PC, So I guess the problem is the 2wire router. Not sure how to allow those individual sites though. I'll have to check out their website. thanks for the simple help lol

    Could be a problem with your router/modem in general is your dsl light solid or does it start flashing after awhile of being solid?? I had this issue in the past and the only way to test it and how i fixed it was to get another router and tested my line and it is working fine now it could be that your router or modem for that matter is faulty.

    No problems with the dsl router that I can see. I may need to forward some ports. However I did just check on my old pc if it was able to connect to itunes store or not and it didnt have a problem. So i'm guessing something isnt configured properly with windows 7. The fact that IE won't open any pages what so ever tells me something funky is going on with my setup.

    Have you tried to manually set your I.P addresses and see if that fixes the problem when it comes to browsing??

    Ok to set your ip address manually you need to go into your wirless network settings and click on manually select your ip settings. See Bellow
    [IMG]

    make sure your default gateway and dns settings are the same address. They are the ip address of your router.

    Also here is the pic of what you should see in command prompt also remember your settings will be different to mine.

    let me know how you go???

    This is actually most likely a bad Windows proxy setting. Mal-ware can sometimes automatically change your Windows proxy settings to connect through a malware controlled server.

    Firefox does not use the Windows proxy settings... so that's why you see that working fine but nothing else.

    1. Run a full virus scan. I would suggest malwarebytes (the free version) @ http://www.malwarebytes.org/ if you don't have anything on your computer right now.

    2. a. Go to Control Panel > Internet Options
    b. Click on the Connections tab @ the top
    c. Click the "LAN settings" button near the bottom of the window
    d. Make sure the "Use a proxy server for your LAN" is UN-checked

    ...I think that should fix it.

    ok borhan, am I supposed to use the ip settings ipconfig brings up or use the one my router displays? I mean besides my router's ip address. also your image, never displayed. @olives and trees, that would make sense. Unfortunately LAN proxy isn't enabled at least not under internet options/connection tab/lan settings. Maybe its enabled else where? I'll have to snoop around a bit more. any other suggestions? haha thanks for your help so far guys/gals

    Not sure why the pics did not display u can go to my profile page they display there. The ip settings that you put in are basically ur subnet mask happens automatically and your dns and gateway are your router address however ur ip address should go something like this. 192.168.1.** the last 2 numbers u make up also the .1 before the last two numbers is the digit that your DNS and gateway have it could vary from 0,1,2.

    Hope that helps.

    Also
    Try proxy or lan settings within the firefox browser and the other thing you can do is try restoring your internet options to default.

    What antivirus/internet security package are you using???

    yeah, except for this post and the previous. Should I post my IP address settings and my router settings to make this easier? or is that just asking to be attacked? my router is encrypted.

    ok seriously, what the crack. booted up my old pc checked connectivity settings. everything is set to auto and everything connects just fine. I think I'm just gonna reinstall windows 7 and see if something wasn't correctly installed. maybe a driver didn't set up properly or something. very irritating

    dude dont go do a drastic thing like that yet. go to I.P config in command prompt and post the ip settings of the old machine and then on the machine with the issue put in the same default gateway and primary dns and change the last number of the ip address. It should work fine then.
