is it possible to go strait from dvd decrypter to nero and skip dvd shrink? nero can split dvds into 2 too. i am a little rusty on this so i apologize if i am asking a rediculous question. my buddy is going through what i went through when starting these posts and he is complaining how long it takes as well. also, if it is possible to skip using dvd shrink... can u keep the command options that r available on an original dvd? thanks, scott
You could go fron DVD Decryptor to Nero if the DVD your copying is a DVD5 disc. If it is a DVD9 disc then you would have to have a DL DVD burrner and a DL disc to go from DVD Decrypter to Nero. As of splitting them in 2 I guess you can do that but it seems it would be best to run it threw DVDShrink or Nero Recode2 and compress it to fit onto a single layer disc if it is a DVD9 disc. The quility dosent degrade that much.
larrylje and sferrell I disagree. IMHO, with high resolution (HD/Progressive Scan etc) playback equiptment, loss of quality due to compression is very visible. I will always split a dvd9 across two dvd5 blanks ... until the cost of dual layer blanks drops below a dollar. Five or Seven disk DVD Changer/Players are cheap nowadays and make watching split disks more convenient. I prefer using CloneDVD2 with AnyDVD for this rather than Nero. Best regards, Whisperer
I have (HD/Progressive Scan) equipment and a 65inch HD/Projection screen TV and I have very little quility lose when I compress the DVD movie with menu's down to DVD5. Not enough diffrence that you can tell. Now if the compression level is below 55% I uasly will then do the DVD9 on a DL disc.
how long does the entire process take using anydvd with clonedvd2? i too have a 43" hdtv and believe compression would make a difference... although i have not yet experimented. anydvd is a decrypter so can i use dvddecrypter instead of anydvd and then use clonedvd2? also, the nero program i have allows me to split dvds... is the reason not to use nero because of the format the dvd files are in after decrypting the original dvd? thanks all, scott
The first place you will notice loss of quality is in shadow areas of the movie. A "grain" will be visible in dark scenes because there is not that much detail in shadows and when compression throws away whatever data IS there, there is so little data left to burn that it gets replaced by "noise". If someone would invent a transcoder that would throw away data in the highlights and midtones but leave the shadow areas uncompressed, then compression would be a much more viable method for me. Again, it's all a mute point once dual layer blanks become cheaper. If you DO opt to compress, Shrink's transcoder probably does a better job with viewable compression quality on HD equiptment than CloneDVD though. Clone does very well but better is better, right. I never compressed with Nero so can't offer an opinion. Time varies with the speed of your backup rig and the mastered bitrate (resolution quality) of the original movie, but about 40 min for the whole movie (both split backup disks) with Clone and Any as long as you are there to do disk two after disk one is complete. It's just one process since Any just decrypts on the fly, in the background, while Clone rips and burns. And both programs are kept quickly up to date with revisions to handle new sony (and other) protection schemes.
