I posted yesterday and received some help with my dvd burning application. I've taken some steps and still having some problems. Prior to last week, I was able to burn without any issues. I ran out of DVD's and went to the store to purchase new dvd's. I was getting continual errors saying that I had a disc failure. I went to purchase a whole new set of different brand dvd's and still had problems. I posted yesterday and I was told to upgrade by firmware and to update Nero. I upgraded by firmware yesterday and upgraded to Nero 7.0 today. Now, my dvd's begin to burn but fail. I've attached the log and I'm hoping someone can help. Gwendolyn was awesome yesterday and I appreciate it, but still having some problems.

    Here is my log

I personally do NOT recommend Nero 7.2.3.2 as it is in my opinion "buggy". My recommendation is to uninstall it, run this clean tool http://ww2.nero.com/nero7/enu/Nero7_CleanTool.html

and then install this more stable version of Nero 7.0.8.2 from here

    http://www.filehippo.com/download_nero_7_premium/?845 Nero7.2.0.3/7.2.0.3b are also "buggy"

You still need to look at increasing your Ram to 512 meg

You are still using the same discs.

    Slow burn to 4X

[bold]You could have updated to 6.6.0.18 without any $$$$ outlay[/bold]

    Hi.

    Jumping in.

I think there might be a communication problem between the burner and the computer causing a problem. Change USB2 cables if you have a spare.

Also try creating an ISO file of your project and burn that with either DVD Decrypter or ImgBurn. That will tell us whether the burner is working and whether the problem concerns Nero. I've had burners in external enclosures that will not work with Nero at all yet work fine with other programs.

If you're using DVD Shrink to create a project, after selecting Backup!, in the Select Target Backup: choose the Create ISO Image File option. If you already have a folder of video files, open that folder in Shrink, click the Backup! button, and choose the Create ISO Image File option.

    http://www.filehippo.com/download_dvdshrink/
    http://www.filehippo.com/download_dvd_decrypter/
    http://www.imgburn.com

To burn an ISO in DVD Decrypter set the Mode(menu) to ISO > Write, seelct the ISO file as the source and the DVD burner as the Destination, select the write speed, and click the hard drive icon at the bottom to start the burn.

To burn the ISO with ImgBurn, set the Mode to Write, select the ISO file as the source and the DVD burner as the destination, set th write speed, and burn.

If the above fails, try the drive on another computer system and verify it works OK there. It could just be related to the software on your computer.

    Edit: Added

If you're using Shrink you need to set the Target Output Size to Custom and enter 4350 or 4400 in the MB size box to avoid burning too close to the outer edge of the disk.

Edit menu > Preferences... > Preferences tab > Target DVD size > Custom

This is the case for any authoring program as well.

Thank you both for your suggestions. I'm at work tonight, but I'll give both ideas a try and let you know what happens. I appreciate the helpful advise.

Well...some success.. I was able to get an ISO image to burn using DVD Decyrpter. I am still having Nero Issues. I've cleaned and then reinstalled the version suggested by Gwendolyn. I have also ordered an additional 256K of RAM, but have to wait. Have tried 2 different brand names of discs, and still nothing (at least not with Nero.) Here is my latest log.

The problem seems to be that Nero is not communicating with the external burner. I don't know if it's a communication bridging problem, a bad cable, whatever. I've had this problem before and ended up having to put my burner in a different external enclosure to get it to work with Nero. It's actually one of the reasons I avoid using Nero. One of the larger threads here used to be problems with external enclosures and Nero. Is this an OEM external or did you put an internal burner in an external enclosure yourself?

If I were you I would just burn with DVD Decrypter or ImgBurn. You can still use Nero for conversions or other projects, just use the Image Recorder as the output device and create a Nero nrg image file. Both Decrypter and Imgburn will accept that as an ISO file to burn.

Most other authoring programs will either generate a folder of video VOB files or ISO image files. Either Folder2ISO or DVD Shrink can be used to create an ISO file from the folder of VOB files. DVD Shrink can also take a folder of VOB files as input and burn directly to DVD Decrypter (or ImgBurn).

I'm pretty happy that I've at least got the burner to work with DVD Decrypter, so I think I'm gonna email Nero to see if they will refund my money. Dont know if it will work but it seems to be that their software is the only one that doesn't work.
