im about to buy a 32" hdlcd for my xbox360, but i cant decide on the 1 i want, Theres a polaroid that has a contrast ratio of 800:1 and a RCA that has a contrast ratio of 1000:1 the rest of the specs are for the most part the same but the rca is a 100$ more is it worth the extra? thx for the help
get the highest contrast ration you can because lcd and plasma don't have the same light to dark ratio as a picture tube tele or buy a hdtv with picture tube like I did. I purchased a phillips and was very pleased with it.
I agree with elliott. Lower contrast ratio will make the picture look more flat. To get richer colors and deeper blacks go for the higher contrast ratio.
Also agree, My HDTV has 5000:1 contrast. A good test is watch a DVD in letterbox format. The bars at the top and bottom of the screen should give a good indication of the contrast ratio. In this case it's how well the blackness blocks the backlight from shining through. Sort of the same principle for other colours. These days 800:1 sounds quite low but go to your local show room and see for yourself.
