I need some help deciding whether to re-encode my dvd's to fit onto a dvd5 or to convert them to xvid. I was transcoding them with recode, then dvdfab platinum, then dvdshrink. I was getting errors in the final dvds (skipping sections, freezing, blockiness). So I decided to convert the dvds to xvid using autogk. I set the target quality to 100%, and they came out well at about 1.5-1.7gb. I'm just wondering if the xvid files will look as good coming through a component cable (I don't have one for my xbox yet) as the dvd5's from my dvd player (through component) or if I should try re-encoding them with dvd-rebuilder. Thanks for the replies.
Well if you only want the movie, then you should delete everything unnecessary with dvdshrink. All extras, unnecessary subtitles, commentary, spanish audio, 2.0 audio etc. This way you wouldn't have to convert your movies at all, so the original quality would on the copies. I've copied several dvd's with dvdshrink, and in my opinion that's the best way to go. I just want the movie with original image/audio quality, extras have to go.
