I am having some trouble to convert an avi file, which is Xvid 23.976, onto files I can use to author a DVD, usually mpv/wav. What I have used is Canopus 1.5, but I get errors in the last part which already ruined one DVD I burnt. The file is only 1h 50min long, so it should fit the disc fine. I even corrected the bitrate, using Bitrate Calc, and the size went fine into one disc. Nothing I never did before, and I have already burnt many hundreds of discs following this procedure. I also tried using Sorenson Squeeze, which I tried on another disc and did fine. But with this file I get compression errors. As I am not too familiar with this program I can't say if it's up to the job. What program can anyone suggest that could do a quality MPEG2 conversion?

No problem. What data do you need for me to post here? Why do you think that might help? This film doesn't look different from others I converted in the past. Though I should say that for 23.976 films I usually used Procoder 2, which I can't seem to install right this time. When installed I don't get an option for NTSC or PAL DVDs, which I used to get.
it might just be the file doesnt like your encoder so can you try another or did you want me to suggest one .I do xvid/divx avi pretty much with divx to dvd and you can get a free version at6 filepedia.The links at the bottom of the page guy

The program you suggested sounds very nice and will probably solve my problem for this file. But I need something a bit more sophisticated, that will let me convert AVI (Dixv or else) to MPEG2 and/or let me add DVD chapters. On the first case because I like to use DVDLabPro so I can add subtitles and menus; on the second case because it's better to handle DVDs with chapters on your player. What other programs would you suggest?
will tmpgenc dvd author allow you to add more chapters to your project,.Its been a lot of time since i changed proggrams, must be in a rut.If i find one i'll post back
Well, you should know that the conversion I did with the DivxtoDVD program went just fine. At least on the test I did (which I always do) on a DVD-RW disc. Quality seems fine and this conversion didn't have the problems the other had. Thanks for your suggestion. My guess is the Procoder 1.5 I had used, because my Procoder 2 is not working properly, can't convert a 23.976 file well. I still need another program that can provide me with separate mpv/wav files. TMPGEnc Author will add the chapters and provide a menu, but it needs those files I mentioned.
One thing that I found to be very good in DivxToDVD was the short time it takes to do it all. Took about one hour and a half to burn a whole 1.50 hour film. All other procedures I used took a total of ten hours or more to get it done. Perhaps the one thing I miss more, from auhorings done in TMPGEnc Author or DVDLabPRO, is the lack of a stop when you load the disc on your player: it starts playing right away. It also goes on playing when the DVD ends. I could capture the burnt DVD as an MPEG file and re-author it, using those same programs, adding all I want. But I am afraid there would be further decoding/coding involved that might harm the image quality.
possibly, but not a surety.You can always encode with divx to dvd or its new name convert x to dvd and then run it throught the tmpgenc dvd author to add chapters, edit your mpeg2, add menus etc before you burn to disc, iso or hd
