convert avi to mpg

    Hi Guy
    I just recently downloaded some stuff most of them .avi files. I can watch them om my G4 now I would like to copy the files on to a DVD so I can also watch them on my DVD player.
    I downloaded a .mpg file and burned it (with toast) on to a DVD and it works perfect.
    So I guess I should concert the avi to mpg ?? HOw do I do that, to I neet to get some software?

    you should be able to use ffmpegx to convert.

    I have a Mac G4 Powerbook and it is rare that I am able to view .avi files. What do you use?

    I was reading about "VLC 0.8.4a" for Windows. I wonder if there is a parallel to that for MAC. . . .

    There is VLC 0.8.1 for OS X you can probably download it on Versiontracker.
    Quicktime Pro will also do the job.
