I need help. I have an Epson p-2000, which can play movies in mpeg4 format. The problem is it can not decode divx. The manual suggests using Quik Time Pro to create/convert files, but I dont want to pay for any software. Any suggestions on Free software that will change my divx and my ripped dvds to a usable Mpeg4 file.

DivX is an MPEG4 video codec, so the video is already MPEG-4. What exactly do you mean by MPEG-4 format though? mp4 files with MPEG-4 video and aac audio? One issue though would be that Quicktime is SP only and the DivX maybe ASP. DivX, XviD, libavcodec, etc. can all output SP though if needs be.

I appreciate the reply. Sorry I took long to answer your questions, I was out of town. Anyway, I know divx is an mpeg4. The Epson p-2000 will only play mpeg4 files with a .mp4 or .mov exstention. I guess from what little I know about mpegs and divx is that the container for the file cant be an avi. I have used psp video 9 to convert some divx to mp4 but it makes them small(for the psp screen) and does not fill the screen on my Epson p-2000. SO what I need is a program to easly change my divx .avi files to mpg4 or mov.

MPEG-4 is MPEG-4. No reason why you can't have DivX in a mp4 or mov container. Try mp4box for mp4 muxing or I guess 3ivX for mov muxing.
Quicktime Pro should also be able to remux.

yamb is a windows interface for mp4box. I found it while trying to downloade mp4box. If you use mp4box without yamb you have to do everything by typing in commands. This program(i've only used it a few times now) works very good and is pretty easy. You just pick the video you want to convert and then select the same video again in the audio section and then mux. Doesnt seem to have any problems
