Hi All, I use ConvertX to DVD for a fair bit of converting, burning etc and have found a strange happening. Hopefully you can shed light on this problem or suggest an alternative.
I had 4 AVI films ( B+W ) all 1 hr 50 or less that I converted and burned ( took 7hrs ) onto 1 DVD. No problem and negligable loss of quality.
I then did same wth 2 AVI films ( Colour ) both around 2hrs 30 with similar results, good audi and video, negligable loss of quality.
This last time I tried to do the same with a TV series. I had 15 episodes of 45mins each and split so that I had 7eps on one DVD and 8 on other. The result was good audio but no video. I then reduced the number of episodes per disc to 5, this took 3 hours to convert and had same results, good audio no video.
Where am I going wrong? Am I using the right converter?
Thanks in advance for any advice.

I presume you're still talking about avis. First of all, it'll be much better if you could attach an encoding and burning log. But having said that, this could only be because you don't have all the necessary codecs. Try install K-Lite Mega Codec Pack and see if problem can be resolved:

    http://www.free-codecs.com/download/K_Lite_Mega_Codec_Pack.htm

Do this with one episode first, and encode to harddisk without burning to see if things are o.k.

If problem persists, post a log.

    Good luck!

Thanks, that seemed to sort things out, I have had no problems with convertxtodvd since.
However I did get this error when I tried to do a similar job with Nero!

    ERROR
    cause: 128 (nmc_processing_exception)
    source: GetSampleData
description: The owner SID on a per-user subscription doesn't exist

    Any ideas what this means?

try this = http://forum.videohelp.com/topic288959.html ie it's one of a few things i've read that blame ffdshow as being the culprit.

i personally swear by the K-Lite codec pack on various machines, never once had an issue with it; however i don't/won't use Nerovision, i see this error a lot where Nerovision is concerned, you're better off sticking with (the much better) ConvertXtoDVD.

Hi creaky, Re installed k-lite codec pack without ffdshow, still get the same.
Not too worried though as I will convert with ConvertXtoDVD as usual. I just found the menu creating on Nero a bit better. I must admit that CX does a quicker job than Nero, almost half the time transcoding with CX!
    Thanks for the advice.

Oh well, it was worth a try.
Yep, ConvertXtoDVD takes a lot of beating :)

FYI.. ffdshow does have a known conflict with some versions of ffmpeg. That may be generating the errors, as it can also mess with other certain transcoding tools which may call ffmpeg instead of ffdshow.

Why not try dvd flick which can be configured to use just about any. OR.. if you want something much more hands on and complicated you can always be brave and give dvd-styler a go.
