Hi, i'm having an old problem again, i,ve got a high quailty mkv video file which plays perfectly on my PC, but when i encode it with ConvertXtoDVD the VOB files and the burnt dvd lose audio sync. I've corrected sync problems in the past with avi files using vitualdub but is there a solution to this, could it be that i'm using an older version of ConvertXtoDVD, version 2.2.3.258 or is it because my PC is low spec, Sempron 3200+, 1GB Ram etc and this isn't powewrful enough to encode HD quailty video files. I've had this problem on a number of occasions, with low quality video files as well, but i just can't figure it out why some files with no obvious problems and which play perfectly on my computer lose audio sync after being converted. DVDFlick can't encode mkv files, would buying a newer version of ConvertXtoDVD help, i'll try FACV if that can handle mkv files, thanks for any help once again.
thats an older version of cxtodvd its upto v3.xxxxxx15 i think now also it has a setting in options for audio sync correction is yours enabled? thought dvd flick does do mkv files? do you have a codec pack installed? like k-lite mega codec pack? http://www.dvdflick.net/features.php
I've tried it with audio sync correction enabled and off, no difference, i have the Cole2K Media-Codec Pack(Advanced) installed, when i try using DVDFlick and open the folder there's nothing there. So perhaps i'll install the codec pack you recommend as there's obviously some thing missing if DVDFlick can convert mkv, and i tried FAVC last night using the two pass mode with the QuEnc encoder with create ISO and when it had finished both the dvd folder and ISO image were both zero bytes? One other thing, when the original mkv file is loaded into GSpot it shows me nothing, no information, so it must be a codec problem but i've converted many mkv files before and i guess the audio sync problem must be due to the original file some how.
I've been using Convertxtodvd since 2.x 'cos it handles the sync. problem very well. I'm now using 3.0 which is getting even better. I also use K-Lite Mega Codec Pack to go along with it. But if changing the codecs still wouldn't work, you may try use Winavi 8.0 which also encodes .mkv and handles the sync. problem very well. Good luck!
Thanks for the help, i'll keep trying, will be doing a new windows XP install soon so that might help with any system problems and when i can afford it build a new higher spec PC or just upgrade. Just can't figure out why FAVC didn't work though. Will also get a newer version of ConvertXtoDVD.
I've installed the K-Lite Mega Codec Pack but didn't know what boxes to tick on installation i just used the defaults?
You can just use the defaults for the time being, but pay special attention to codecs related to your present need. With K-Lite, you can always change the codecs to fit your needs later.
TO BURN A PERFECT MKV DVD USING CONVERTXTOVD: (The key is to first extract the h264 video and audio from the MKV file) Step 1) Download and install MKVtoolnix Code: http://www.softpedia.com/progDownload/MKVToolnix-Download-43981.html Step 2) Download MKVE wizard (off the top of my head I don't think its self installing, so extract the folder to "program files", then navigate to it and right click the "MKVEwizard.exe" and "send to desktop (create shortcut)") Code: http://coreforge.org/frs/download.php/22/Wizard-1.2.zip Step 3) Run MKVE wizard (It will ask for MKVtoolnix, Browse to local disc/program files/MKVtoolnix) Choose your MKV file (input souce), Choose an output destination. Choose "next", Check both boxes (video and audio file), then extract the files. The end result is two file, one H264 video file and the acc or ac3 audio file. Step 4) Run "Convertxtodvd", browse for file (to the folder the newly extracted files are (**important**, you will not see the new files with the default "file of type: All Supported files", you must change the drop down menu to "any file")) Select only the h264 video file - ConvertxtoDVD will prompt you to enter the running time of the video, click on "automatic" and it will scan the file. Next the video info will pop up on the screen, open the tree "+", and right click "Audio", select "add audio" and browse for the audio file (you may need to change the "type of file" to any type again". Convert - burn to dvd - enjoy a perfectly sync'ed DVD.
Thanks for a great guide dvdisme, i will be trying it and will let you know how i get on. Everything went as discribed until: Next the video info will pop up on the screen, open the tree "+", and right click "Audio", select "add audio" and browse for the audio file (you may need to change the "type of file" to any type again". It won't give me the option to add any audio file, when i right click on audio(0 Stream) nothing happen's, did you know i'm using a early version of ConvertXToDVD 2.2.3.258.
I will upgrade to version 3, and my little old sempron is struggling at times so will do a upgrade soon with new processor and ram. Can MKVtoolnix do all the things with mkv as Virtualdub can do with avi files, like audio syncing with out of sync files etc. I have many mkv files which i don't intend to burn to dvd but probably in the future would like to be able to correct any problems that arise as i like the quality of the codec. I think many of the problems i get arise from converting from NTSC to PAL, thanks for all the help and time. P.S. I got a virus alert for the Wizard-1.2.zip i downloaded from the link from online scanner Totalscan: eSafe: suspicious Trojonworm but i'm sure it's just another false positive.
