Can anyone tell me of a program to convert avi to mpeg?
I know of many, but I would like to know if anyone knows which program converts with the [bold]BEST[/bold] quality result?
I would like one where the output is as close to the original input file as possible.
    Thanks.

I too would like to know the answer to this question. There are so many programs out there that will convert the files for you but I'm concerned with Quality. My avi files are from DVD rips. I would like to know what programs you recommend to convert avi to DVD.

The best quality DV-AVI to mpeg-2 is Canopus Procoder.
The best general avi (xvid/divx) to mpeg-2 is Mainconcept, possibly tied with CCE.
A good all round encoder is tmpgenc plus, but extremely slow.

I think you should make the topic "which is the best encoder" as a sticky, because i see you answering the same question in multiple threads.

    @ dennalynn :

maybe instead of saying: use xilosoft and find it via a search on google, you might give more infomation on your success story with this application as i did a search of your posts and [bold]TonyDo[/bold] is right. You are sounding like a stuck record.

    Two quick questions...

1- Is AVI the best format to capture videos from Mini Dv cameras.

2 - I currently use WMM to capure my video , then Nero to burn (and I guess it encodes it automatically), How much difference will I notice if I use , say, TMPGEnc to encode it ? (then Nero to burn).

    Thanks in advance.
