I am at a lost here. I read all of the guides that are posted and even read some of the older posts hoping to figure this out but I can't. I had an .avi file that I converted to mpeg2 overnight (although it saved it as .mpg) using Conversion Engine 3.67. This morning when it finished I used Deep Burner to try to make the DVD (using a DVD-R) - That took about 45 minutes and it was the 1st time sence I tried this that it did not come up with an error message (I already have about 6 coasters from this one file) When it finished I took it out and tried it in my DVD player and my DVD player would not read the disc (said no disc present) Please help me! I am so frustrated, I had no idea that this was going to be such an ordeal. I am an above average user on the computer and can not believe that I am having such issues with understanding all of this. (I feel like I should go back to school Thank you, Heather
try using vso's dvixtodvd, its a free app' and very easy to use, it will convert the files, giving you an video ts folder, which you then burn to dvd,(i use clonedvd2 for this)
I agree with Hursty, use DVXToDVD http://www.vso-software.fr/download.htm I use this guide http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/AVItoDVD.html
Alright, Im going to try those methods. It tried another method from the guide (the one using AVI2DVD and DVD Decrypter) It did not work. As soon as it finshed converting (four hours later) it told me there was an error and saved it as m2v. That won't burn.
Congratulations on entering the confusing and rewarding world of A/V. Welcome to the forum! Firstly, much reading is required to get the basics down. I'll attempt to hit some high spots. Some of the answers are in the "Need Help? Read this first" link in my sig. 1.Find the Brand Name/Model of your "set top box" aka DVD Player. Search the DVD Player section at www.videohelp.com or other site to see if your player is even capable of playing dvd's you burn and which format media it requires, if it is capable. If it is capable, it still may balk at some dvd media brands. See your burners documentation or website to find out what it likes. 2. Use the free software recommended here - lots of guide exist. There are hundreds of software packages out there, don't go willy nilly from one to another. Pick a free one, that is easy to use and learn it. 3. Relax. It is frustrating. I just started doing all this in January and have read days on end to gain the knowledge I needed (and I still stub my toe most days on one thing or another). Newbie is not forever. 4. The more specific information provided by you - the more likely an expert here will be armed to help you. Congratulations on reading the guides before posting! Let us know how VSO dvixtodvd works for you. FYI .mpg is the file extension for mpeg-2
Yippi!! I did it! All of those softwares and guides to go with them worked awesome!! However I have a couple questions. One is, how can I get better quilty? Is it the file Im downloading or something different I should do when setting up to burn. The second is is there a way to get the audio on them to play in 5-1 surround sound and the final question (which may also be a 'choosing the right file to download' issue) is how can you get the start menus on these discs? I appreciate all the help, I can't believe that it finally worked for me and thank you!! Heather
you can increase the quality by using more than 1 pass when encoding, unfortunatly vso's doesnt have this option when downloading(i take it movies files),it will take some getting use to what are good and what are not so good, check this site out,it may be able to help you www.vcdquality.com using nerovisionexpress will allow you to sue more than one pass and create meus
