converting files

    How can I convert tar to avi or mpeg files? When I extract video files from.tar files, I am left with tar file, How do I convert it to avi or mpeg file?

    Perhaps it was tar.gz or similar and you uncompressed the gz leaving the tar? You need to keep unpacking until you get the original file(s).
