Converting MKV files

alright i just d/l a MKV movie file and after reading many threads on how to convert these to AVI or another file type like that i still have no idea i have tried using Virtual Dub but it keeps coming up with an error message then i tried using the MKV( full name) splitter but i have no idea how to even start using that and then i tried AviSynth but i cant even figure out how to open that up so can somebody please help with an easy way to convert mkv files

tried that and i get a error message saying invalid floating point operation???

yes i heard of that error, but not sure on the fix, it is talked about on the avi2dvd forums...

not sure on other apps? have you tried divxtodvd yet?

I have the same problem the only aap i know that reads KMV is VLC MEDIA it will play back no problem but i want to transfer it to a DVD!!
