Hi, I have been searching everywhere to find out how to do this. Quite simply i have alot of Anime Video files that i bought and downloaded off the internet, alot of the files are MKV and OGM formats which do not play in my dvd player. I want to be able to convert these files into a format that my dvd player will play. My dvd player actually plays all kinds of formats, including Mpeg4, Xvid, avi and WMV. As well as audio formats like MP3, and WAV files. It also supports divx ultra. How ever its still not able to play MKV or OGM type formats. So i downloaded a program called. "Any video converter". So far i been trying out different formats after encoding them but they still don't work. I am not sure what im doing wrong. I end up with overly large subtitles, the screen is way to small, or it just says GMC video format not supported. My tv is an older tv, but i have stuff that is AVI or WMV format that i downloaded that plays perfectly inside the dvd player. The quality is also like 720p. So anyways im trying to convert any OGM or MKV formats using the right compression and possibly have 720p resolution if i can get away with that. Im in the process of buying an HD TV soon so ill be able to play higher quality formats but for right now i want at least something that works and fits for my screen. Most of the video files im playing contain subtitles as well. So i want the subs to fit on the screen. I do not know alot bout this subject so thats why im asking if you can give me any detailed guides on how to do this, that would help. I can tell you that my Any video converter program contains the following things that i can change during a conversion.

    For video Codecs:
These are the formats for the program that i can use.

Customized WMV contains V8 or V9
Customized Mpeg4 contains Formats xvid, x264 and mp4
Customized AVI file - (this one has alot of formats) Original, xvid, Mpg4, msmpeg4, mjpeg, wmv1, wmv2, mpeg1, mpeg2, h263p, x264, huffyuv, ffvi.

These are the different settings you can change before converting:

Video size 160-120 up to 1920-1080 im not sure what the standard is for video size.
Video Bitrate - ( i have no idea what this is supposed to be at) but you can change it from 192-12000
Video framerate 8-30. My default its on 25 on the program.

If there is another program that is more simplified or supports more formats, let me know. Also since im new to this, it would really help me out if you were to give me some kind of walkthrough or guide on how to encode these formats into a format that works on my dvd player and tv. My email address is edited by ddp If you want you can send me email or even add me to messenger to talk bout it. Or you can just give me all the information i need on this website and ill check back, thanks!! I figured this would be the perfect site for this question since most of you are experts in this field. so thanks!

Looking forward to speaking with you!

Ok i tried using Customized AVI format. The codec i used was just "original" and i put the video size to 720-580 and the quality was excellent. In fact even better then the original MVK file i downloaded. The file size was around 190 mb after i finished encoding it. The MKV file was like 270 but the quality for the avi file i encoded was far better. But i have one small problem. There was no subtitles added to the video so my question now is how do i add the subs from the original downloaded file to the new encoded AVI 720p file.
