I was trying to convert a MS Media Centre 2005 TV file (*.DVR) into a DVD compatible VOB file. The file was >7GB in size and I got a warning about needing to compress to get it onto a Single Layer DVD disc. I Ok'd the program to compress into LP mode.

After proceeding to the final stage, transcoding started and I immediately got an error message and NVE closed.

Anyone else having problems with NVE3 and MS-DVR files?

My impression was that these files are supposed to be supported in NVE.

    Thanks

I have Windows Media Center 2004. I have found that the DVR files are a little frail in NVE. I have to encode them in one-pass only other wise they are just a black screen. I'm not sure about 2005 files but i'm sure there the same MPEG-2 that the 2004 one are. you could try exporting them in the settings that you were using except change the number of passes to only one. Then import your exported file back into NVE and then it should be stable when you run through the burn process. BTW what did the error message say?

If I try & Export from NVE3 (using any of the templates) I get "Error occurred during export operation" (useful!).

If I try to write a DVD the error is "unable to prepare data for recording: prepare session failed. Transcoding of videos failed".

I get the same behaviour on a different PC.

BTW, neither of these PC's is a Media Centre PC - is this important?

That is very important. Otherwise will not work, as you have found out. For some reason it is not possible to do, I think it has to do with the codecs and the ability to decode the DVR streams properly. The only thing I suggest is put the file back on a Media Center PC and encode it to another format. If you don't have Nero there then the only other software that can process is WinDVD Creator or Sonic products.

When I got the Media Centre PC in Mar this year, installing Nero on it, totally screwed the system up. So when I did a clean reinstall I deliberately kept Nero *off* it.

So I guess I need to look at a Sonic Solution (I've seen other users have successfully used MyTV).

    Thanks
