I seen a older thread on here and this is basically what it said.... think I finally have this figured out. I was having the same transcoding 'freezing' as everybody else. I have done 2 things and it seems to have completely fixed the problem. First: Using Recode or Vision Express turn all mpg, mp4, AVI, etc into VOB files. By using vision express you can also do all your editing at that time making the DVD authoring simpler. Second: After doing whatever authoring you do (menu stuff, chapters, storyline, etc.) save your work, exit Nero, reboot, shut down any software you do not need, turn off antivirus (don't know if this is important, but I do it anyway), bring up vision express and Burn (AND ONLY BURN) the project (or write it to your hard disk which is what I do!). This really does solve the freezing problem. Ok my question is...what do i need to transfer my files into vob format and once i download the converter exactly how do i transfer them cause i have downloaded a few converters and i see everything i can convert them too but i don't see nothing about vob format...can anyone help? I'm getting so sick of the transcoding stopping while trying to transcode a file. I have tried everything and nothing seems to work...i have seen some suggestions but don't seem to understand them enough to try it so can you guys please help...been having this problem for well over a year now..some files transcode no problem but alot of them stop...its about to drive me crazy
So-called VOB format is just DVD format. If the conversion program outputs a folder of DVD video files, the files containing the actual video will have the .vob extension. Some of the most commonly used AVI/DivX to DVD conversion programs are: VSO's ConvertXtoDVD: http://www.vso-software.fr/products/convert_x_to_dvd/ DVD Copy 4 Platinum: http://www.intervideo.com/jsp/InterVideoDVDCopy_Profile.jsp TMPGEnc Express 3: http://tmpgenc.pegasys-inc.com/en/product/te3xp.html DVD Santa: http://www.dvdsanta.com/ The Film Machine: http://members.home.nl/thefilmmachine/ NeroVision: http://ww2.nero.com/enu/index.html (part of the Nero suite) The Film Machine is a freebee but requires a separate encoder iirc. Nerovision and DVD Copy 4 Platinum have fully functional free trials. ConvertXtoDVD and DVD Santa have free trials but watermark their output in the trial version. ConvertXtoDVD is extremely popular however. There's a guide to its use on this site: http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/vso_convertxtodvd_guide.cfm Other factors important in getting a good conversion that plays well are using quality media like Verbatim, Taiyo Yuden, and Made in Japan labeled Sony or Fuji disks, not overburning but limiting the speed of the burn to 1/2 or less the rated speed of the media, and making sure your burner's firmware is up to date. http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_all.php
I have a nero dvd burner with nero vision and nero express...do i need any of this stuff you posted about and whats a good free one if i do need one and how long does converting take? Also....How much does it cost to buy it and if i buy it do i have to pay a monthly fee to keep it? And once i convert them to vob...can i burn my dvds in safe mode?...the reason i'm asking that is because i heard that all applications and programs have to be closed also in order for the transcoding not to freeze up?
I actually bought the fill version of nero from bestbuy a few years ago for 99.00 bucks but i don't see how to convert the files...i only see how to transcode them before burning them....how do i convert them them first to dvd format?
Do you have Nero 6. If so, that'll do. Just be sure to upgrade to version 6.6.0.18, the last really stable version of Nero 6. Here's a link to the version: http://www.filehippo.com/download_nero_burning_rom/?539 Here's a guide for converting AVIs/DivX files to DVD compliant files with Nero's Nerovision Express (NVE): http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/272946 http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/NVE Basics.pdf The first guide above uses NVE 4 which is the newest version, but the basics are the same regardless of the version of NVE used. NVE has several output options: burn to disk, burn to hard disk folder (folder of DVD compliant filess for later burning), and burn to image recorder (create an ISO image file for later burning). It isn't necessary to burn in safe mode; just don't multitask while you're attempting a burn. Just close down all user programs that you might have opened except for the burning program. Make sure your computer has adequate memory. It can be done with 256MB but that's pushing it imo and 512MB is better.
Ok here is the deal...i downloaded that VSO's ConvertXtoDVD that you mentioned and while converting 1 of my files i got this..... Assertion Failed! Program: ,,,gram files\vso\convertXtodvd\convertXtodvd.exe file: asf .c Line: 575 Expression: asf->packet_replic_size >=8 For more information on how your program can cause an assertion failure, see the visual C++ documentation on asserts (press retry to debug the application - JIT must be enabled Ok when i got that i couldn't figure out how to enable the JIT so i just clicked retry and nothing happened and i didn't know how to see the visual thing they were talking about...do you know what could cause an assertion and what exactly is an assertion anyway?....this all id so confusing
How do i tell what version of nero i have...and what you talking about doing with nero converting or whatever is that the same as transcoding cause if so i bet it will freezeup the same as nero does thats my whole complaint...nero stops transcoding on some of my files in the same exact spot everytime and the only thing that keeps moving is the elapsed time and nothing else moves and it never finishes
Sorry, Demon, but I've never seen that error before. Something made the ConvertX program blow up for whatever reason. Maybe the files you fed it were corrupted or something. I'm not sure.
You never answered my other question which was....ok i have nero OEM version 6.3.1.19 and NeroVision Express version i have is 2.1.2.17 and can i convert my files to vob format using nero express or nero vision with the version i have or do i need a newer version and if i need a newer version how do i get a newer version and is transcoding the same as converting thanks?
Yes Nerovision 2 will do it. However, you migh as well update to Nero suite version 6.6.0.18, the last stable version of Nero 6. The latest version of Nero 6 from their site is not a good one. Version 6.6.0.18 is available here: http://www.filehippo.com/download_nero_burning_rom/?539
Ok once i download the new version how exactly do i convert my files to vob files?...Can you like type me a guide up on here? Thanks...and sorry about posting twice yesterday...i wasn't sure if my first post went thru or not
The servers were bogged down yesterday again. At least they were for me at my end. I had difficulties posting as well. Start NeroVision Express Select Make DVD > Video-Video Select Add Video Files... Browse and locate the AVIs and add them one at a time Edit/Add chapter markers if desired. Make a menu if you want to get to each of the titles. Otherwise they play sequentially. I'd output to the Image Recorder (makes an ISO file). There are more problems when burning the compilation directly for whatever reason. Then burn with Nero/DVD Decrypter etc. Here's some guides others have prepared: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/272946 (NVE4 but basic are the same) http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/NVE Basics.pdf
