Converting widecreen DVD to MP4

    I have converted a dvd which is in widescreen format into mp4 first using dvd decrypter in ifo mode and then converted the vob using pspvideo9 using a res of 368x208. It looks ok on my psp, but just wanted to know if there is a way anyone knows of on how to remove the black horizntal lines above and below the movie so that the movie takes up the whole screen......if that makes sense

    Instead of using 368x208 use 320X240 and youll be able to change the view mode on psp between Fullscreen - Zoom - Original thats the easiest way. Another way is cropping, there are many progs which do this, but i suggest virtualdub.
    use Virtualdub to rip dvd to vob, when in virtual dub find the option to crop and remove the bars, then video 9 it.

    Nice one, I'll try virtual dub. I have tried chainging the view mode but the bars are still present, even when I am wacthing the dvd on a widescreen TV.

    Will let you know how I get on

    Also, what are the benifits from doing a 2pass over a single pass encode, as 2pass takes twice as long so must have some benefit.

    Or try these settings with PSPvideo9 taken from my guide at Ravenlife. (Link in my sig)

    You will find these ASPECT RATIO,s on the back cover of the DVD.

    For 2:35.1 with an ASPECT RATIO of 4:3 (yes sometimes there is) use these options:

    VIDEO
    MODE: AVC>CBR
    VIDEO BITRATE: 384kbps
    RESOLUTION: 416x176
    FRAMERATE: 29.97fps
    ASPECT RATIO: 1:1

    CROP INPUT: Make sure the box is checked.
    TOP 170
    BOTTOM 170

    AUDIO
    BITRATE: 160kbps (is actually 128kbps, bug in the program maybe)
    CHANNEL: STEREO
    SAMPLE RATE:48000Hz
    VOLUME: 500%

    PRESS APPLY.

    For 2:35.1 with an ASPECT RATIO of (16.9) USE ABOVE SPECS with these CROP INPUTS:

    LETTERBOX = 70 TOP and BOTTOM
    ANAMORPHIC = 74 TOP and 66 BOTTOM
    WIDESCREEN = 70 TOP and 68 BOTTOM

    They are very similar i know.

    For 1:85.1 with an ASPECT RATIO of 16.9 use these options:

    VIDEO
    MODE: AVC>CBR
    BITRATE:384kbps
    RESOLUTION: 368x208
    FRAMERATE: 29.97fps
    ASPECT RATIO: 1:1

    CROP INPUT: Make sure the box is checked.
    TOP 70
    BOTTOM 70
    FOR WIDESCREEN:
    TOP 12
    BOTTOM 10

    AUDIO is the same as above.

    If you follow these settings correctly, your black bars will vanish
    And u will have full screen size at the right resolution
