    If the original AVI is out of sync, you could try 'Nandub' on a copy of your AVI.
    Run Nandub
    File -> Open Video File (select the AVI)
    File -> Save Wav (saves the audio)
    Video -> Select Direct Stream Copy
    Audio -> Select WAV (open the audio file you saved)
    Audio -> Interleaving (put a value in the skew box)
    File -> Save as AVI

    Import into Convertx again.

    Also TMPGenc Plus can adjust the audio sync, but the output would have to be remuxed in the likes of TMPGenc DVD Author.

    Either run the avi through VSO DivX2DVD (the precursor of Convertx) and check the sync.
    http://dl.afterdawn.com/vsoDivxToDVD_setup_v0.5.2b.exe

    or run the output (DVD ) files through this one.

    adjust sync with TMPGEnc DVD Author Pro
    http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/tsunami_mpeg_dvd_author_pro_guide.cfm

    Run Author, use Source Wizard (DVD-VIDEO)and open the folder
    Goto 'Cut-Edit Chapters' and look for 'Audio Filter'
    Plug in a number and use 'Audio Preview' to test.

    The first one's free the second is 14 day trial.

    Try converting the avi with DVD Flick (freeware) and see if you get a better result.
