I've converted and burned a dvd with ConvertXtoDVD and the process seemed fine. (avi file) when I go to watch the dvd on my home dvd player the picture constantly rolls and it looks black and white. I followed the directions in one of the threads dedicated to this program so i'm pretty sure I did it right. Can anyone tell me why this is happening and how to fix?
I live in the U.S. and I believe the black and white is simply caused by the picture constantly rolling vertically. Any other help anyone?
Just a stab in the dark but, is my burn speed possibly set too high for the file to be burned properly? It is automatic in the program.
I just tried to burn another avi file and I lowered my burn speed from 16x to 8x and it worked (played) in my computer with no problem, but then when I tried to play it in my home dvd player it still did the same thing. The picture rolls constantly and very quickly vertically. The sound plays fine though. Can anyone help me with this problem?
Just a guess but it could be a media problem. Try Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim or any made in Japan. Good media guide here: http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm Burns with poor media may play on your pc but not on a standalone. BTW, you're on the right track with burn speed; 1/2 the rated speed of the media is a good rule of thumb.
Under SETTINGS look at GENERAL options...... make sure it's NTSC and not PAL..... I agree with Attar and Mistycat.
I am using Imation discs. I used the dvd info tool and saw no real problem with the discs even though they are not top quality. I have burned with these discs with many other dvd creator programs with no problems. I have used dvd santa and super dvd creator with no problem burning. The only reason I switched to convertxtodvd was Super dvd creator stopped letting me load files into it (kind of just froze when I tried) and dvd santa kept coming up with the message "dvd santa has encountered a problem and needs to close" right after i hit the make dvd button. So I tried convertxtodvd for a better end result even though the process is slower and it keeps coming up with the messed up picture and last time i tried to burn with it i did check to make sure it was on NTSC and same result. So it only seems to be this program doing this (even though its not the first dvd program to have a problem on my computer.) But any more ideas on how to solve this?
Don't burn the project with Convertx2dvd. Output to a folder. Import the output files into the likes of DVD Shrink. If Shrink imports them without a problem and you can preview them ok then you should be able to burn a good dvd. Shrink can burn with Nero, (or Imageburn or DVD Decrypter, which are free). http://www.mrbass.org/dvdshrink/ http://www.mrbass.org/dvdrip/
first off Imation media is not just low quality media... it's crappy media! So this is one thing in your control to fix! but that wouldn't necessarily cause your problem. I suspect it's the AVI that you downloaded! ConvertXToDVD is a great program. I'm pretty sure it's not the program's fault..... but then I'm prejudice on VSO software and I never ever had a problem with any of their programs!
tried burning with shrink/dvd decrypter and it previewed fine and seemed to burn fine, but my dvd player just sits at the loading stage and does not recognize a disc being in the player. I'm lost here. Any other tips?
If the disk previews on the pc and it's the correct format (NTSC for North America), then your problem is probably the media (either you burned it at more than 4x or it's not a good product) http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm Try Maxell or Verbatim.Sounds like your almost home. As a side note, I burn converted avi files to DVD-RW to make sure that everthing is correct (NTSC, Audio in sync, etc) and playable on a standalone player before making the final copy to DVD-R.
