In Cool Edit/Adobe Audition, when I open a music file and I see the wavelength. Is there a way to distinguish and edit the instrument and voice seperately? Like if I want to drop out the instrumental and keep the voice or vise versa? Thanks.

not really, with all the instruments and vocals combined into a stereo track, they're all mixed together. if it were a multitrack file, then yes. You can try playing with the equalizer to hide some of the sounds you don't want though
