So the new keys are out, but I still need to update the bin. Has that not been released yet? If so, where do I find it. Sorry, Noob here, but I'm reading, a lot, like advised, just having difficulty on the Bins Vs. Keys issue.
Hi KBswim420, I'll try to explain the BIN/KEY differences. The BIN file is a software download that needs loaded into the receiver. The older bin files usually included the new keys if needed. The newer bin files usually have someting called auto roll in it that will look for new keys if they change and update those keys. So you actually have 2 things that control the encryption from sats. The Bin file and the keys. The sat providers can change the keys at any time which is easy for them to do. Thats what they are playing with right now on the local free channels. 2 months ago they changed the main encryption stream and every channel when out. These big changes require that a new bin be written to decode the encryption. The code/bin writers are having a extremely hard time finding how the new encryption works so they can write the bin. Thats why most receivers are still out. Once the encryption is cracked then a bin will be released. So the keys are minor changes to the encryption code, and the new bin file is needed to decrypt the big changes like we had 2 months ago. All the key changes in the world won't help get the complete channel package until the bin file gets here. Jerry
Thank you very much for the info. I see the difference. So basically, we'll KNOW when the bins are released?
Oh Yes, It will be posted everywhere. As of right now, Viewsat has the new bin along with Sonicview and the Buzz receivers. They all have it because they are tied in some way with Viewsat. Coolsat has a fix that requires a programmed Rom 102 card and a card reader installed in the Coolsat receivers. This is an extra cost of about $300. to $400. depending on where you purchase the extra stuff. It also requires knowledge of some card programming. Neosat has a receiver that hooks to the internet and get its programming updates through the net. It works but I don't think its a good idea security wise. Thats your choices at this time. The Viewsat/Sonicview/Buzz receivers are the only ones working the cardless way we are use to with a bin file that works. Jerry
