I ripped some DVDs with Decrypter and then copied back to disc with Nero (I have Nero Express version 6--updated to latest). I had no problem on my home player with playing the DVD--the Comedy Central them came up and the warning, then the menus.

But on a couple of friends DVD players, and one is brand new, the DVD's would only play up to the warning and then would never bring up the menus. Is there something I am missing when I ripped it or perhaps when burnt? I am new to this but wondering if there is some protection setting that the other DVD players are getting.
    What to look for?

I have been using Ridata, and seem to have very good success. And although my DVD is 16x, and the disks are 8x, I only burn at 4x. Everything comes out very well.

Maybe I need to try another app to author the disk or try burning one at the 2.4x speed on the media. I used Verbatim +R DL's for 2.4x but they were burned at 4x.

Perhaps that is my problem??? So you guys know of no protection issues that I overlooked....(i am sure I took all of them off with Decrypter) .

Thanks for the input--I will give it another go

I doubt it is protection if it plays on yours but not theirs you could try dvd shrink to reauthor leaving only the main movie I only use verbatim dvd-r and dont have any problems I know that many recomend booktyping dvd+r I dont know much about that Im afraid

It is definately a compatability issue and not a protection issue...take a look at "why can't I watch my movie" in my sig...it will tell you how to booktype using DVD Decrypter.

Well, the more I get into this, the more I learn (and sometimes get confused) but your blog pages spelled out some things nicely! I will attempt the booktype fix as soon as I can and see how that works. Thanks for the insight and keep building that blog! (Thats some good stuff)

Now I want to ask you a question (ha!) Trying to build some discs now with parts of vob's from various discs--different vacation videos, etc. Any time soon you will be putting out a blog page on that? I converted a vob--oh well, this is the wrong thread for this.

try pressing the menu button on your dvd player remote. i know it sounds crazy ,but sometimes it works to get past these things.

No, that doesn't sound crazy and I think I tried that, but may not have--good point. Sometimes the obvious IS the solution.

I would build a guide for that process if I had any experience with it, unfortunately I don't. You should be able to capture video in Nero and edit it together with Nero vision.
