hey there... No matter what software you use (I have both latest clone cd and Alcohol 120%) do you still need your ps1/ps2 to be chipped? I refuse to believe that no one has managed to get a cd writer to copy and burn the Bootsector Protection... Cheers for your help guys! Dave
Believe it, sorry. The protection bypassed by ModChips is HARDWARE. 1:1 copy only bypass software (linked to data) protections.
but surely its the data on the disc that determines whether its playable or not? This boot sector protection must be stored on the disc somewhere. Is it in an area that cd drives cant reach and the only reason the playstations find it is cos of their extra hardware? Cos otherwise a writer *should* be able to read all the data, and copy it exactly including the bootsector protection, as its only data... Cheers! Dave
Some protections (not PSX's) can even determine the angle between the laser and the n-th track as protection check. For this reason you need cracks to bypass CD-checks or more sophisticated protections than Safedisc.
yeah, I get that. There is certainly some cool stuff that you can do to check cds which you cant reproduce in a data form. So, how does the psx do its copyright checking? I read that it uses a boot sector protection on the cds which the mod chips either recreate or bypass. Surely, there MUST be a way to recreate the boot sector data on a copied cd, unless its on an area of the disc than only the psx can read, cos the drive is designed differently to all other drives... Otherwise you must be able to re burn the bootsector area on cdr's and the psx/ps2 would be none the wiser... Just a thought... Dave
