I would like to copy the audio tracks of DVDs to an audio file. Is there any FREEWARE or proprietary commercial software that will do this? Specifically, I'd like to listen to these tracks on an mp3 player.
Rip the DVD to a folder on the hard drive. Open the ripped DVD files in Avidemux (usually it's VTS_01_1.VOB). If there are multiple audio streams it will ask that you pick one (use the top 'Audio' menu to select - usually it will be the default.) On the left menu, change 'Audio' to MP3 Use the 'Filter' button to make sure it's set for stereo. On the top menu click the 'Audio' and select 'Save' from the sub-menu. Give the audio file a new name - including the extension (e.g. audio.mp3) http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/video_tools/avidemux.cfm
