Who here has suffered with a corrupt profile and/or game saves after being banned? I've seen people comment to say that they cannot move their profile and/or saves to a new unbanned console, so all they can do is recover their gamertag on the new 360.

Who here can confirm or deny this? I haven't been banned yet, so only post if you have been banned and you have tried to use your hard drive or memory unit on a different 360. We already know that the blocked install feature is specific to the banned console, not the hard drive itself, but I think we need some clarification on the profile/saves issue.

My 360 has 512 MB of internal memory, so I'm wondering if I copy my gamertag from the hard drive to the internal memory, then I remove the hard drive and sign into Live, if I am banned, will my profile and saves still end up corrupted? I'm guessing no, because that would have to be done remotely through Xbox Live, so if profiles/saves are being corrupted, it must occur on the local storage at the time of the ban, so if we can confirm that this happens, at least we can all avoid it.

The corrupt save files and gamer tag on hd has not only affected me but a handful or friends and family.

why not just backup your game saves on your PC...then if you do get banned and you cant access your HD's contents, you can just reformat it, and inject your backups into it?

Aside from it being a bit of a pain to back up your save files very often, its a great idea and i would have done this myself if it didnt catch me by surprise, among my friends and family i was the first to get affected by this.

Have any of your friends and family members been banned, but the corrupt profile/saves thing has NOT affected them?

I'm thinking that this affects everyone, but most people haven't realised yet because they haven't tried to access their saves/profile on a different console.

They were all banned and then realized there save data was corrupted on an interesting side note my friend hooked his hd from his 360(which is not banned or modded at all) to my banned console and all his save data was corrupt oh my console only we tried it on 3 other consoles and it wasnt corrupt.

So let me get this straight then and correct me if I'm wrong: -

    1. If you get banned, your profile and saves still work on your console, but appear to be corrupt if you move your storage device to another console.

    2. If an unbanned user connects their storage device to your banned console, their profile and saves will appear to be corrupt.

    Is that right?

Yes your first question is correct your save files work just fine and continue to on your console but show up as corrupt on another console.

The second question how ever i'm not sure this little test we did could have been just a fluke we have not been able to get any other hd from an unbanned console to show as corrupt except this one hd.

just get the HD transfer cable on ebay, costs like 10 bucks tops. install xplorer360, xport360, or the 250gig hacked xplorer360 onto your computer. takes like 10 minutes to dump partition 3 from your 360 HD onto your pc. not that much of a pain. and its definitely worth doing now that the bans appear to be still going on. the extra 10 minutes as week doing this will pay off when you banned and have to start over.

Anyone else had any experience of this?

Yes I'm having the same problem but wasn't aware of what was going on till I found this thread.

I got banned 4th Nov but still had 900 points to use up. So I though I'd be cleaver and take my HDD off put it on my mates and download a game that way.

How wrong was I (but didn't know until now), put my HDD on my mates couldn’t sign in looked at memory and profile said corrupt profile.

So I though no probs must have corrupted when I disconnected my HDD, but I though it was switched off when I disconnected it and now I'm sure it was.

So I deleted and recovered my gametag from my mates box and all worked fine, spent my points, went home put HDD back and now I can’t sign into my gametag. Comes up with some message can't remember now what it said nothing about being banned though and gives you the option to test connection, probably the usaual message you get when can't sign in. Guess it’s because I recovered my gametag from my mates Xbox.

Can anyone think if a way rounds this so I can use my gametag again, access my saves? Was hoping there was maybe some way to download it to a PC, been looking but can’t find anything, anyone have any suggestions? ¦:(

Personally I think I'm probably screwed and best part is I can't even play the game I spent the points on as I can't sign into the profile it was downloaded on lol, no not lol, boo hoo hoo, bhh.

But I knew the risks when I took the risk, mugged up.

Anyway if anyone has any ideas I'd be grateful.

    From my testing.

A banned console will make any profile that is loaded corrupt. Which means that you will not be able to load that corrupted profile on a unbanned console. You can recover a gamertag on a unbanned and load it on a banned. When you first do this, it will say that it can't connect to Live so don't bother to check connection and the profile should load. I've tested it with a few different accounts.

The reason why they corrupt the profile is because they don't want people to play flashed games on a banned console then just move the hard drive to a unbanned to update profile or such.

It's more of a annoyance since you can still recover your gamertag on a unbanned but can NEVER get credit for the achievements you earned from the banned console.

    I hope I didn't ramble on.

I may have misunderstood the last post.

So, you can recover gamertag from banned console/harddrive, but all saves are lost?

That wouldn't have worked anyway, even if the gamertag wasn't corrupt.

DRM ties the downloaded game to the hard drive, console and gamertag that downloaded it.

If you were successful in downloading the game on your friend's console, it would work with any gamertags, online or offline, but only on his console and with your hard drive attached. When you took the hard drive home, it would know that the console isn't the one used to originally download the game, so it would just show up as a demo. You would have to sign into Live with the gamertag that downloaded the game every time you wanted to play it, and obviously as you're banned, you can't do that.

If MS didn't do that, then I could just download games I've already bought on my friends' consoles and they could own them all for free.

I guess you guys found it the hard way. I had 2 consoles from 2006, premium (LIVE) and modded . Then the modded one got banned in late 2007 for playing gow2 and WAW few weeks early, well dint know at that time you could get banned for playing early. ANyway, used both consoles, LIVE for online / original games and bnaned for d/l games swapping the drive from one to another and getting all the chevos and saves transfered. This continued till 2009 when NXE or another update came and i had to do it on banned one due to it being already present in the HDD. Afer that i was stupid to plug the banned in the network just to update the time and got a msg during madden 10 that ur console has been banned (never happed in any game before even plugged in) and after that i faced corruption in game saves and profiles switching b/w consoles. That was few months back and i searched and posted in places but people didn't know anything about it. Guess the new ban hammer is making sure that as one above said, not let people hv cheovs on offline and simply transfer online to LIVE account.

I hope there is a way out of this as my LIVE is RROD'd and ready to ship to MS for repairs. So plyaing MW2 offline in another account but no hope of getting those chevos transfered to LIVE one.

I just got this error too. I'm going to try to swap back to my old drive and try to recover what I can from my profile. When I put my HD into my modded box my profile is still there but when I swap back to my unmodded box it says the profile is corrupted. I'm not even able to recover my profile at the moment.

I was wrong before about losing all my saves and stuff. If you download your gametag from an unbanned machine by recovery onto your HDD and then put it back on yours it will work ok.

I got the message about connection but like someone said before its just a connection message once you get rid of it you can still use the gametag.

I did a little palying around with this issue a couple days ago. I was able to create a new profile on my banned console and move it to the non mod with no problem. however I did have the same problems as everybody else with my recovered profile. the one I created was not set up for live. also only some of my game saves were corupt. My resident evil save loaded fine on my non-banned console but that was a retail copy originally played on a modded console, but my borderlands was corupt and that was from a burnt copy. I'll play around with it when I have more time. One thing I thought about doing was to completely whipe the hard drive. Then recover my tag and see if it transfers back and forth.
