I decided I wanted to play a video file on my ps3 via a usb flash drive. The flash drive I am using is a sandisk cruzer 8 gb and the video file I am playing is an mp4 file type. When I started playing the movie about 20 minutes in and all of a sudden the movie just stopped and on my tv screen it showed the file is corrupted. I then took out the flash drive, went to my computer, plugged it in and ran it in windows media player and sure enough it stopped in the exact same place and said it was corrupted. After that I deleted the corrupted file, copied the original working uncorrupted file on my computer to the flash drive again, clicked safely remove hardware and selected the flash drive, then plugged it in my ps3 and started playing the video again. Sure enough the video started playing except it did get a little bit farther in the film this time, but ended up still saying that the data was corrupted. I then copied the original file to a different flash drive which was the 8 gb sony flash drive. After that I plugged it into the ps3 and the whole movie played fine. What was the problem with the sandisk flash drive? I know it wasn't the ps3 because the file on the flash drive corrupted at the same spot when playing it on my ps3 and my computer using windows media player. I have one of the original 60 gb ps3 that is backwards compatible with ps2. I fixed the problem with another flash drive, I just want to know what is wrong with the sandisk flash drive.
