I am new to all this.
I want to convert my old s-vhs to dvd. I saw some software for sale at comp usa.
I prefer software that cost $$. No beta no trials.
    would you recommend
Sony vegas movie studio, or microsoft digital image suite.
Do most new computers come out with some pre installed software for transfering my vhs to computer then dvd? I may also want to intergrate some photos with the video to make a sort of video/picture scrapbook.

    Thanks

You'll need a capture device to connect to the VCR.
I would recommend a Pinnacle AV card as it comes with good software to do what you want, gives good quality imaging and enables removal of an Macro-vision on the VHS tapes.
Second hand cards etc... are always available on ebay if you don't want to buy new.

i currently have been using Sony Vegas 6.0 to do my video editing.. seems to work decent... and has nice dolby output options too and hd compatible video etc..

a bit harder to learn at first but once you do a few quick movies, you'll get the hang..

    just my .02..

    peace
