could be the wrong section??

    looked around but couldnt see where this would need posting

    i have a starview 3 box and wondered what cable i needed to link it to my pc to update the firmware ect...

    null modem cable ... from local electronics shop

    thats the one rs232null modem cable

    make sure you have the same connection on your computer as on the starview otherwise youll need the cable with usb connetion on one end

    hi thanks for reply ive upped this picture of the back of my box (bad quality i no haha) im not sure if its a clone ect.. is this the correct connector?

    all the boxes have that RS232 male connector. What you need to ensure is that you have a female ( blue ) RS232 connection on the motherboard of your PC ( will be at the back of the case along side or above/below your USB and serial ports.
    Most laptops do not have this connection so instead of a male to female RS232 null modem cable you need a USB2 to RS232 female lead. The latter are troublesome because windows ( xp and Vista ) can be temperamental and not pick up the box at all when using these leads to flash.
    I suggest always using the male to female lead and borrowing a friends PC for 5 minutes whilst you install the update software. Of course this will not matter until you have working firmware to flash with.
