Hello, I cannot burn CDs, even at low speeds! Could one of the Nero gurus take a look at this log and provide some insight? Thanks very much!

    doesn't like disk......

Why are you buring a CD with Nero Vision? try Nero Burning ROM or Nero Express!

and if all else fails and you still can't get it to work:
you have packet writing software on your computer..... Roxio... most members agree that when Nero starts to fail it's because Roxio and Nero isn't so compatible with each other. Uninstall Roxio and try again....

I didn't use NV. I definitely used Nero Burning Rom. Started it, went into the File menu to open the ISO, etc etc.

Not knowingly. I've never installed a Roxio product, ever, on any system. I've always used Nero.

Hmmm...this installation is on Vista. Is there a possibility that something's up with the OS? The only way to remove Windows CD-Writing services in Vista is to disable it through policy, because the service no longer appears in the Services MMC. Is there some other way?

As for interference from other programs, I have several other authoring and burning applications installed...DVDFab Platinum, DVD Decrypter, DVD Shrink and AnyDVD (none of these were running during when I captured the log). And, too, there's Microsoft's Windows DVD Maker. I also own UltraISO but doesn't it use the Nero engine for burning?

Is your firmware the latest? I've checked with RPC forum and it's no where to be found. In addition, try another brand of media (i.e. Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim).

Damned if I know. I looked good and hard before I started this thread and I found zip.

Don't know why. It's not a rare drive. It's an all-media DL DVD-writer in a Dell XPS 1210m. Gotta be tens of thousands of them out there by now.

Just tried again with VB media and got no love.

Yup. Ran it, rebooted, and things still blew up. Should've mentioned that before, apologies.

I'll waste another CD on it this evening and capture the log (I forgot to save it last time). If CDRALW2K.SYS shows up in the log, the only thing I can think of is that it may very well be something new with Vista.

And I can only slow the burn to 10x.

your packet writing program is gone (Roxio or whatever)... but you're still burning crappy media.... CMC Mags is not good media! sorry...... try burning higher than 10x on your CD media... sometimes burning too slowly is just as bad as burning too fast. And what are you doing? are you copying a CD or something? you are still getting:
Notice the Invalid, Invalid, Invalid and NOT relocatable, NO disc pos, NO patch info which gets you a write error and an invalid write state. better media might correct this ..... what are you trying to burn to CD?

Heh, yeah, I guess I should try to burn more than one particular ISO, eh? Damn, that's pretty simple. I'll give it a go.

All of these attempts have been with a copy of Hiren's BootCD v8.6 which I pulled from the Usenet. There was no corruption evident in the downloaded archives, but that doesn't mean that corruption didn't exist before the poster packaged it. Back to you in a bit.

Your burner doesn't like the media you're using, try other high quality CD-R (i.e. Taiyo Yuden, Sony or Maxell).

NOTE: below is a successfully burned log of mine, compare yours to mine and see if you'll notice any differences.

Tried another ISO...a Dell diagnostics disc image...it burned perfectly. Same media, same computer, same everything.

Tried the Hiren's ISO in another computer. Blew up, same as before.

Tried burning the Hiren's at DAO/96 and it appears to have worked wonderfully. YAY!

    ...but why is that?

Hiren's = a boot CD with a collection of utility software. Very useful in a pinch.

    DAO/96 - disk at once, 96.

I thought I would throw this out there. I've tried a bunch of stuff but I'm not getting anywhere. I think this firmware is up to date. Everything use to work and then I updated nero which messed things up, so I cleaned and reinstalled on my desktop and laptop. Desktop works fine now and laptop doesn't. Any help would be great, my eyes are burning!!!
I had a different disc in the drive when I tried to burn but it does the same all the time. Thanks in advance!
